ABOUT
Meet Beverly Diehl: she
writes on the wild side
Beverly Diehl started writing as a teenager, but discarded most of her early efforts because they just weren't good enough.
"I thought the words were supposed to drip from my pen as golden, perfectly shaped pearls," she says. "Then I discovered rewriting." She's been writing (and rewriting) ever since.
Her specialty is erotic fiction, a genre she turned to after reading one too many novels in which the heroine was…
- all of 19 with large (yet perky) breasts, slim hips and thighs, plus a PhD in rocket science…or
- orphaned and alone, with no friends or family…or
- a sexual dynamo who's holding out for marriage because she's a "good" girl…or
- noble and penniless (but always well-dressed)…or
- one dimensional arm-candy for the male hero who does all heavy-lifting.
Beverly doesn't know any women like that, so she creates female characters based on the kind of women she knows and loves. They have imperfect figures and do really dumb things. Their friends and family enrich their lives, and make them more complicated and challenging.
Her characters often get themselves into trouble, but can always figure a way out. Finally, her heroines enjoy hot, juicy sex, whether or not it's with Mr. (or Ms) Right.
In addition to her erotic novels, Beverly’s writing credits include:
- Short Shorts, a short story/poetry anthology,
- four years as columnist in The Working Title, a monthly literary publication,
- six years as editor/contributor to Hoofbeats,
a monthly equine newsletter,
- occasional op-ed pieces in the Los Angeles Times, and
- several first place finishes in local writing contests.
Born in Wisconsin, her teenage years split between small-town Pennsylvania, and Southern California, Beverly now lives in Los Angeles with numerous UFO's (UnFinished craft & writing Objects) and her beloved fat cat, Metaphor (aka Stinky.)
She is a past president of the Glendale-based Alameda Writers Group (AWG) and currently moderates an invitation-only fiction critique group. She landed an agent the old-fashioned way—submissions, submissions, submissions!
