VisionBoarding – Out with the Old, In with the New

Have you ever done vision boarding? I made this one several years ago, but with some changes in my life, including visiting The Tower of London, (bottom center), and Hever Castle (toward the top right), it was time for a new vision board.

And it just so happened that one of my friends, Kamran Afary, and one of his associates, Cyndi Kelvin, decided to put on a visionboarding workshop, right when I needed it. Along with several other really cool people, I joined the 2019 Create Vision Board Workshop. Comfy chairs, big work area…

They had lots of supplies, neatly organized, hundreds of magazines to cut out pictures from, markers and fabric and feathers, oh my!

I had printed out a few images and phrases I wanted to use, and found plenty more, but Kamran’s suggestion got me started in a whole ‘nother direction. What about doing my vision board according to feng shui principles? I thought this was a great idea – and I wanted to work on it more at home. So I didn’t finish my board in the workshop, but took my pictures and such home to work on them later.

As seen here, I also have tons of neatly organized poster-making supplies.

My wealth and prosperity center was one of the most important. I started with a layer of (fake) money, and while I liked the piggy banks on the bottom right of this picture, couldn’t find the room – and loved the idea of pairing the piggy bank with saving for vacation.

Next up, my Fame and Reputation area. I took the much-memed image of a beautiful woman, dressed sexily, legs spread, and banging out words on a typewriter, because isn’t that what I look like, when I write? The mailboxes indicate my newfound determination to keep up with the purging and sorting of my email, to never again be facing over 1,000 stale unread messages and thousands more read and NOT deleted or dealt with. The book love – that should be easy to figure out, as is the ad excerpt: write anything, publish everything, market everywhere.

Love and relationships center. I decided to go for the steamy. I loved the nake spooning picture at bottom right, but I love the other two – the shower sex and the neck-biting, more. The hugs and kisses emoji was important, because my partners and I exchange a lot of them, in our texting. And “I love my life and the ones in it” – perfect for polyamory.

Creativity and children – I had so many babies and kids on my previous vision board, it was a little out of control. In dream psychology, they stand for new projects, new ideas, and I definitely want to keep it going, BUT I also need to finish shit. Which, speaking of shit, Picasso was something of a douchebag, but that quote still speaks to me.

Helpful people and travel. Sooo many pictures I wanted to include, and such a small bit of real estate. No room for my Grand Canyon pictures, or most of my Kern River Valley or Washington DC pictures. I settled on a picture from my spring trip to Hever Castle, with my niece Becky and fabulous writer Rachel Medhurst. And a ballooning picture – something Becky and I had been wishing on, for DECADES, that we finally made come true. Arlington National Cemetery holds a connection for me with my mother, and if my DC plans come to fruition, this year, I’ll be revisiting there. Likewise, the “falling cows” sign is holding space for a planned trip to the Kern River Valley this summer.

Career area. Time to rock and roll. I loved this stock photo of a beautiful young woman celebrating at her computer. I want to channel FINISHING more projects, so, **The End** , as well as other phrases and a set of books in motion.

Knowledge and self-cultivation. Again, had to pass on Seek Magic every day, though I loved it, and the other inspiration sayings, due to not enough space. Had to have butterflies, and this image of them transforming felt perfect. Add in my Ecstacy, music, art, and a great saying, and it felt complete.

Health and family? Well, that waterfall picture includes a shot of my son, aged about 10, jumping off the rocks into the deep, icy pool there. I liked the “breathe” on the computer, and the pool with the “mermaid on duty” sign, because I am planning to get into my apartment pool as often as the weather permits.

Finally, the center, grounding section, which is also about health. I loved the yoga pose, but it was too big for the space. The massage in the forest, though, that was super appealing. The strong, powerful women by the bike – mine is different, but I am practicing self-care by committing to biking as much as possible. And the puppy and kitten, cuddling – making time for cuddling, this year!

Finally, the full view. I added puffy sparkly hearts and flair all over, and that worked well. I’m really happy with how it came out, and have it positioned behind my gratitude jar where I can enjoy and be inspired by it every day.

Have you ever designed a vision board? What elements did you include, or exclude?

Are there areas in your life that could use work or inspiration?

  1. I love creating vision boards! It has been a few years since I last made one, but reading your post has inspired me to create a new one for 2019!
It’s a great way to set intentions for the year and serves as a pretty reminder to continue working towards what you want to achieve.

    1. And I have tried to do the planner thing, with stickers and colored pens and such, but couldn’t make it work. I guess that’s the key, finding out what works for us.
